Dish of the Week | Torched Avocado Toast from Alden & Harlow
The Dish of the Week is the Torched Avocado from Alden & Harlow. This little beauty has peeky toe crab, poached egg, and a kalette and cauliflower kimchee. It’s from the brunch menu, available only on weekends. This dish pretty much has everything I love. Crunchy toast, creamy avocado, sweet crab, runny yolk, and a tangy kimchee. I did not know what kalette was (I thought it was baby kale) but it is actually kale sprouts, a hybrid vegetable that’s a cross between kale and Brussels sprouts.
Avocado toast is one of the trends I jumped on early and stayed on for years (rest of my life?). Long-time readers know that my parents have an avocado tree in their backyard, and I have adored avocados since I was little. One of my favorite pairings for avocado toast is crab (check out this Avocado and Crab Crostini) and this torched avocado dish from Alden & Harlow feels like the grown-up, more sophisticated, brunch version. Alden & Harlow is one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and in fact we are having our wedding reception there in 5 weeks! We might just have to include this is our menu.
PS – in the background are the corn pancakes and a side of bacon (of course).
