Breakfast for Dinner

The Basket Case - Eggs, Hash, Sausage, Toast, Pancakes

Breakfast food. 80s music. Those are two things I really love.

Combine those two and I am in heaven. I mean, who doesn’t want to eat bacon and eggs while listening to some Whitney or MJ?

Earlier this week, I was able to go to one of my favorite local diners, The Breakfast Club in Allston. That’s right, a diner called The Breakfast Club. And THEY ONLY PLAY 80s MUSIC!

It’s so, so perfect.

I used to work right near The Breakfast Club for about seven years so I was a frequent visitor over the years. I would often go there for lunch with my co-workers or weekend brunch with friends. They have really delicious food – just look at the sausage plate pictured on top. That’s called “The Basket Case” – with eggs, hash, sausage, toast, and pancakes.

The Breakfast Club is starting a new Breakfast for Dinner series and I attended a media preview. Every first Monday of the month, the diner will feature a four-course meal with a theme for the night. February = Valentine’s Day, March = St. Patrick’s Day, April = Easter, and May = Spring. You can read more about their Breakfast for Dinner series here.

mimosayogurt with strawberries and chocolate

Because of all the snow that Boston has been getting, the Valentine’s day dinner was postponed a couple of weeks. But I don’t mind, because I’ll gladly eat Valentine’s Day themed food any time of the year. We had mimosas,  vanilla yogurt with fresh strawberries and chocolate shavings, red velvet pancakes, eggs benedict with smoked salmon and shaved steak, and to cap it all off:

the breakfast club milkshake

A milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard – chocolate, cherry, caramel, peanuts, and marshmallows all swirled together in one shake. I know that’s a 2009 song so let’s talk about eighties music for a minute. I’m an eighties baby so I have a soft spot for that decade (I love the 80s playlists on Spotify!) I like the upbeat and catchy songs (I dare you to listen to “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” without smiling), I like the swoony, romantic songs (“True,” “Drive,” “Don’t Dream It’s Over”), and even though Glee almost ruined Don’t Stop Believin’, I still believe.

As for my other favorite Breakfast for Dinner dishes, I have a few of my own recipes that are my go-to’s:

no crust spinach and sweet potato quiche

Crustless Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese Quiche

chocolate chip pancakes

Coconut Chocolate Chip Pancakes

spicy eggs with chorizo

Spicy Baked Eggs with Chorizo

80s tunes optional but highly recommended.

Thanks to the The Breakfast Club for indulging me with my favorite things! Tell me, do you eat breakfast food for dinner? Do you like eighties music as much as I do? I’m listening to Hall and Oates right now. You make my dreams come true…

Hahaha…I’m also a child of the 80’s, and 80’s music is pretty much the best.music.ever. I have a Journey station that I listen to whenever I’m in the kitchen! And now I’m gonna want to listen to 80’s every time I go out to eat. Excuse me while I go turn on some Devo…

Haha I was having babies in the 80’s but yes I do love the music! I adore breakfast for dinner but it’s usually Cherrios! Those home fries look fantastic and the yogurt with strawberries and chocolate – brilliant! Hope you are staying warm – we had 4 more inches of snow this morning (DC area) but that’s nothing compared to the pounding you’ve gotten this year – here’s wishing for an early(ish) spring!

Thanks Marcie! I know what you mean, especially during weekdays. My breakfast is usually just yogurt and fruit, but at night I want all the eggs and bacon!

I remember going to diners with my brother growing up and those little music boxes at the booths! I still love to hit the diner and I sure hope they never go away! Breakfast for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner all the way!

You included an egg picture! Wasn’t sure if you would after all your hilarious remarks. Loved getting to catch up over this delicious meal. That shake. I don’t even know what to say.
