The first Dish of the Week for the year has to be extra special, and it is: the tuna tartare from UNI. It is exceptional, made with the freshest tuna but also mortadella (yes, mortadella!) which lends a creamy saltiness, plus peanut satay and blood orange. This is a dish that’s meant to be eaten with the eyes first, and then savored slowly as each bite melts in your tongue.
UNI is a contemporary izakaya located at the Eliot Hotel in Back Bay. I luxuriated in their tasting menu this past weekend (you can see photos of each dish on my instagram) and this tuna tartare was one of my favorites, along with the seared foie gras and tuna nigiri. UNI is a special occassion place(aka pricey) but very well worth it.
