New York Weekend Eats

I’m back from my long weekend in New York with my parents, and I’m still full from all the good food! I had such a nice time, the weekend was filled with shopping, eating, meeting old friends, spending quality time with my parents, and more shopping and eating. I wasn’t too guilty splurging a little on food and calories because I was walking for hours while I was shopping (splurging a lot haha). Our hotel, City Club Hotel, in midtown was FANTASTIC. Very chic, very clean, and very impressive service (they even had freshly-baked cookies for the turn-down service, how can you beat that??) Anyway I actually booked this hotel because I wanted to take my parents to Daniel Boulud’s DB Bistro Moderne and try out the DB burger – stuffed with short ribs and foie gras *drool* And that was just meal #1! My favorite food highlights for the NY weekend trip were:

– @DB Bistro Moderne’s: smoked salmon appetizer and the DB Burger of course

db burgerthe amazing DB Burger

-@Flute: Mambo King Martini (definitely high on my list of best cocktails ever!)

-@Carnegie Deli: I wasn’t too impressed with the Woody Allen (“lotsa corned beef plus lotsa pastrami”). To be honest, I was more shocked at the size (I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much sandwich meat in one sandwich ever). But, my parents and I shared the baked short ribs and THAT was probably one of the best ribs I’ve ever tried.

look at all that pastrami and corned beef!

-@Fig & Olive: mixed charcuterie plate and the rotisserie chicken salad were really, really yummy.

the olive oils and charcuterie plate (yes, I ate a lot of meat in NY) were amazing

-@Tasti DLite: small cup of marble cheesecake mixed with coffee cake. It was my first time to try this and I was not disappointed! Especially because the nice Pinoy guy at the counter gave us one free cup. heehee

-@food cart on the street: small bag of honey-roasted almonds mixed with honey-roasted coconut. Cheap and delish!

Surprisingly, I did not have a lot of dessert this weekend (just Tasti DLite and the chocolate chip cookies from the hotel). I also packed some healthy snacks (apples, bananas, string cheese, pretzels, and cranberries+walnuts), as well as tried to keep my portions in check, so I felt really good and better yet – really satisfied and happy.

Now on to my other favorite topic, SHOPPING! Our hotel was at a perfect location, I could easily walk to 5th Ave (for Saks and Henri Bendel) and Madison Ave (for Barney’s). I had to take cabs to go to the Barney’s Co-op at the Upper West Side (worth the cab ride, ended up buying these great-fitting skinny jeans from James Jeans) and yesterday morning when I decided to visit Century 21 at the Financial District (ugh, I did NOT like that store at all. Reminded me of Filene’s Basement, which I like, but not as good. Definitely not going back). But overall, I am ecstatic over my shopping finds, which include an antique-looking thin bangle with a “B” charm from Henri Bendel, another pair of jeans from Barney’s, and pretty red BCBG blouse from Saks (I’m not listing everything I bought here!).

I had such a nice time in NY, and already I can’t wait to go back with the boyfriend. Now I’m back to the grind here in Beantown, but at least this is another short week – looking forward to the holiday weekend too! Hope everyone’s doing great!
