As some of you may know, I am quite the hoarder when it comes to nut butters. Especially chocolate flavored nut butters. What’s not to love? Nut butters are sweet, protein-packed and contain heart-healthy fats. I love my nut butter as a topping for oatmeal, in sandwiches, with apples or bananas, and – let’s not lie here – straight out of the jar. Peanut butter, almond butter, hazelnut butter, soy butter, I’ve tried them all. What I haven’t tried yet though is coconut butter.
I’ve been reading about coconut butter from some of my favorite blogs (like Fitnessista and Faith Fitness Fun) and I’ve been wanting to try it, but I never see it at Whole Foods. A few weeks ago, I lucked out and found Artisana on the shelves! I bought a jar of the coconut butter and the cacao bliss. Of course I tried the chocolate flavored one first.
I used a big dollop on top of my oatmeal, and also mixed in a mashed banana. This was my breakfast before running and it kept me fueled for hours! Cacao Bliss wasn’t as sweet as I expected but it was definitely very coconut-y, which I really like. Coconut is a tropical flavor – sweet but not heavy – and while it pairs wonderfully with similar tropical fruits (hello, coconut pineapple rum), it is also a delicious complement to chocolate.
I also tried spreading a teaspoon on warm banana bread, and it was incredibly melty. I already have plans of baking a batch of cookies with this! Artisana Cacao Bliss is raw, organic, vegan and gluten-free. It has a very short ingredient list, which always wins plus points from me. The only ingredients are coconut butter, coconut oil, agave syrup, cacao and cacao butter.
And yes, if you’re wondering, coconuts are nuts – but they can also be considered fruits or seeds (I checked the internets). Have you tried coconut butter? How do you usually eat it?
Your description is mouth-watering. I’d wondered if this stuff was super-sweet, but I’m happy to hear from you that it isn’t. I wonder how it would work as filling in thumbprint cookies – maybe thumbprint cookies with some kind of fruit flavoring, like orange or pineapple.
I bought the Artisana Coconut Butter and am not in love. I melted it on toast and thought it was too greasy. I do like it in smoothies though. Would love to see any cookie recipes you come up with!
I’ve never tried coconut butter or oil. I’m intrigued though!
Agreed! Chocolate + coconut butter = amaze! And of course banana goes well with everything. :D
I’ve never tried coconut butter before but I agree with you that I love nut butters, especially peanut and almond butters.
Ohhh how I love Chocolate nut butters. I’ve never heard of coconut butter but curious to hear what you think. I like coconut flavor but not so much the texture of coconut flakes (I’m the same about eating nuts), so something creamy would be wonderful!
That sounds amazing! Must find this!!!!
I’ve never heard of coconut butter. I’m imagining the chocolate one tasting kind of like a Mounds bar.
This is on my Whole Foods wish list. Maybe Santa will put some in my stocking. I love coconut. I love chocolate. What could be better?!
Chocolate nut butter out of the jar, most definitely the best way to eat it! :)
This looks incredible! The chocolate/peanut butter combination is my absolute favorite. The only chocolate nut butter I’ve tried is PB&Co’s Dark Chocolate Dreams… I want to try this one now, for sure! :)
I’ve actually never tried coconut butter. Also, I’ve learned that a finding a foodie/healthy living blogger who does NOT like nut butters is a major rarity haha.
That on warm banana bread?? Yess. That sounds amazing. I’ve eaten plenty of baked goods with coconut butter but never used it myself. It seems so cool and versatile.
Wow! This sounds like my kind of nut butter. I found your blog through A Chica Bakes. So glad I did!
This sounds awesome! I need to try this :)
