LARABAR

I love LaraBars.

They are the perfect pre- or post-workout snack (or the perfect on-the-run breakfast bar). Unlike those preservative-filled energy bars or those sugar-filled fruit/granola bars (booo), LaraBars are uncooked and unprocessed; they contain only whole food ingredients, with no added sweeteners (yay).

According to the Larabar website, “LÄRABAR is a delicious blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices – energy in its purest form. Made from 100% whole food, each flavor contains no more than eight ingredients. Pure and simple, just as nature intended.”

One of my favorite flavors, Chocolate Coconut (of course my # 1 flavor has to have chocolate), is made with just dates, almonds, walnuts, unsweetened coconut and unsweetened cocoa powder. That’s just five ingredients – all of them wholesome. My other favorite flavors are Banana Bread (almonds, dates, unsweetened bananas), Apple Pie (dates, walnuts, unsweetened apples, almonds, raisins, cinnamon) and Coconut Cream Pie (dates, unsweetened coconut, almonds, cashwes, extra virgin coconut oil). Yum.

Each LaraBar is packed with fiber and protein, because it’s made with mostly fruit and nuts. It is also cholesterol-free. And for fellow-allergy sufferers, it is also gluten-free, dairy free, soy free, vegan and kosher (wow, I sound like an infomercial).

At around 210 calories per bar, these babies are calorie-dense but I don’t feel guilty snacking on them because 1) I know they are made with real, raw, whole foods with no chemicals/preservatives; 2) they keep me full longer than other less nutritious snacks; and 3) most importantly, they taste great!
