Ben & Jerry’s Truck is in Boston!
Do you want some FREE ICE CREAM?
If you’re in Boston, you’re in luck because the Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Truck will be in the city for the month of August.
I am pretty much enthralled with this new campaign from Ben & Jerry’s because it combines some of my favorite things: food trucks, ice cream, and social media. Ben & Jerry’s is leveraging the power of Twitter and Facebook by letting its followers dictate the route of the scoop truck.
With the urging of our awesome social media team, my co-workers and I started tweeting about the Scoop Truck Tour as soon as we found about it (check out the Overdrive blog post). We used the hash tag #socialice.
The flavor being scooped out that day was Late Night Snack which was inspired by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon: vanilla bean ice cream, a salty caramel swirl and fudge covered potato chip clusters. Yup, you read that right: fudge covered potato chip clusters.
However, I’m first to admit that I don’t really like chocolate covered potato chips, the same way I don’t really like chocolate covered bacon… (Now that it’s out in the open, I hope you still continue to read my blog. Please know that I love – love! – chocolate and potato chips and bacon, but just not all together.)
I tentatively took a bite and… well, I couldn’t really taste the potato chips. They weren’t super crunchy/salty as expected, but instead just chewy little clusters. The caramel swirl was saltier and blended really well with the sweet vanilla ice cream. So needless to say, I cleaned out my cup ;)
And here’s another confession: I was kinda pleased that they were only scooping out one flavor that day, because every time I’m faced with a variety of Ben & Jerry’s flavors, I have such a hard time deciding which one to choose! Should I go with Chunky Monkey? Strawberry Shortcake? Coffee Heath Bar Crunch? Half Baked? Pistachio Pistachio?
I remember the first time I ever tried Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. I was in high school, still living in the Philippines, but one summer my family and I went to Boston to visit Perkins School for the Blind, which eventually became the school that helped changed my sister’s and my family’s life. We still didn’t have Ben & Jerry’s in the Philippines then and I remember trying Half Baked here. I was instantly hooked. I would fish out the gobs of cookie dough – I couldn’t get enough! As I grew older, I discovered other brands of ice cream that I love, but Ben & Jerry’s always has a very special place in my heart.
You can follow the Ben & Jerry’s truck on Twitter @BenJerrysTruck and on their Facebook page. Tweet away!
And as the folks at Ben & Jerry’s would say,
Peace, Love, and Ice Cream.
If you had to pick just one, what’s your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor?
