The Return of the Bookworm
I just realized that within the last two months, I have read 5 books – all light, easy reads, all fun, happy endings, all chick lit books. I HEART chick lit, they make me feel very positive and bright and shiny and just plain happy. And these five books are no exception:
Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes
I had very high hopes for this one and it did not disappoint (to a certain extent) – I love reading all of Plum Sykes’ articles on Vogue plus I think she has fantastic style. The book is very breezy and easy, but for some reason, by the end of the book I was dying to go to the dermatologist and obsess about my skin. I wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but nevertheless it was a very fun read.
Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger
How can you go wrong with a book by the author of The Devil Wears Prada? (TDWP is one of my favorite movies of all time!) This book is engaging and entertaining and ranks pretty high on my list.
The Second Assistant by Claire Naylor and Mimi Hare
Hmmm this is just an okay book for me. It wasn’t bad, in fact there were some funny scenes, but it’s just very typical and preditable. A perfect beach read when you don’t want to think of anything else…
Trading Up by Candace Bushnell
If you can’t go wrong with the author of TDWP, then there is no way you can go wrong with the author of Sex and The City. Candace Bushnell and her stories occupy a regal throne in the hearts and minds of women everywhere, and I think this book is a pretty good indicator of her talent. Even though it’s not perfect (and it’s actually not one of my favorites), it’s still funny, racy, touching, silly and feel-good all at the same time. Plus Christian Louboutin is in the cover, and that in itself earns some points from me.
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
Last but not least, a book by the great author of the FABULOUS Shopaholic series. Confessions of a Shopaholic was one of the earlier books that got me hooked on chick lit (the way I could relate to it was almost a little creepy haha) and I’m a big fan of Sophie Kinsella. The Undomestic Goddess, which I have to admit I did not love as much as her other books, is still good solid book though. Definitely on the predictable side, I hold a special place in my heart for this book because it helped me get through a loooong flight and would still recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a quick, simple read.
ANYWAY, I thought 5 chick lit books in rapid succession was a bit too much, and I wanted to read something a little more substantial. So I decided to go back to Jostein Gaarder – author of one of my favorite books The Orange Girl. Right now I’m reading this:
The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder
And I am loving this book! It’s very whimsical, really almost like a fairy tale, and can’t wait to finish it.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
which I definitely want to read before the movie comes out…
And:
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
And I have heard great reviews about this one so I’m excited too.
So there you go, my quick list of summer reads. I love lazy days and nights of just lounging around with a good book in hand, and a piece of chocolate or some other snack in the other (heehee).
