Food Blogger Cliche: My Top 5 Healthy Foods
Food blogging has changed my life in so many ways and one of the most beneficial things I’ve learned through the years it that healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring and bland. In fact, it can be really delicious. (See previous post!)
I’ve been introduced to superfoods, the heroes of the food world, the foods that deliver a strong punch (kapow!) of antioxidants and benefits for mind and body. No matter how crunchy-granola they may sound at first (“it’s pronounced as keen-wah“), I have learned to embrace these as part of my diet.
Sure, I’ll always have Nutella in my cupboard. But I stock up on these healthy staples, too. I attribute my devotion to these to the food blog world, particularly to the healthy eating bloggers who have influenced my way of eating.
However, it would be remiss to not acknowledge the fact that these healthy foods have become sort of like a cliche among some food bloggers, including myself. We sometimes tend to forget that the rest of the world does not share our obsessions. (What? You don’t know what kale chips are?? You don’t eat your smoothies in a bowl?!? You’ve never had avocado toast?!?!)
So I thought it would be fun do a quick round-up of my favorite healthy foods that make me a proud card-carrying blogger cliche. Let’s all eat these together after yoga class wearing Lululemon :)
Top 5 Healthy Foods (That Are Well Loved By Food Bloggers):
1. Quinoa
Not content eating quinoa for lunch or dinner? How about quinoa for breakfast?
Quinoa as an Oatmeal Replacement
2. Chia Seeds
No, chia is not Ryan Lochte’s catchphrase. That’s actually “jeah” as in yeah but with a j.
I’m not very creative with chia seeds, usually just including it with oatmeal. So I was very proud of my latest dessert featuring chia:
3. Sweet Potato
Crustless Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese Quiche
Also related: Sweet Potato Fries
4. Green Smoothies
These are also called Green Monsters – basically just smoothies with some greens like spinach or kale blended in.
5. Nut Butters
I admit that while love the healthy fats from nut butters (peanut, almond, hazelnut, coconut), I also use them mainly for rich desserts, somehow negating their health benefits. For instance:
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Rice Crispy Cookies
I can’t help myself – peanut butter goes so well with chocolate!
And here’s a bonus recipe that involves quinoa, peanut butter, and two runner-ups to this healthy food blogger cliche category: Greek Yogurt and Pumpkin.
What’s your favorite healthy food?
Next time I’ll post about another set of food blogger cliches: eating things that could make other people either say “eww” or “oohh!” In other words: offal.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
